New Zealand "leader of the pack" for gap years Gap years in New Zealand could be more tempting than ever before for people keen to travel, following the publication of a new ranking.

World Travel Guide has listed the Australasian country as one of its top destinations for 2010.

The online resource noted that while New Zealand is not exactly a newcomer to the world of gap years, eco and adventure tourism are set to become even more popular next year.

As such, the country has plenty to offer.

"For active holidays that take your breath away, New Zealand remains leader of the pack, boasting winter sports, glacier hiking, trekking, caving, bungee jumping and watersports," the site explained.

It suggested that the period between November and April is the best time to head to New Zealand for those keen to indulge in some outdoor pursuits.
