New mobile app to benefit gap year travellers

Posted 30 Jul 2010

New mobile app to benefit gap year travellers Gap year travellers could benefit from a new mobile phone application being launched by operator Nokia and travel website TripAdvisor.

The service will allow mobile users to search for hotels, restaurants and attractions in the country they are visiting, narrowing down their options depending on the region in which they are staying.

Each entry will be rated by fellow travellers and categorised in terms of price and distance, allowing backpackers to select the shops, eateries and accommodation that best suit their travel plans and their budget.

Once they have visited a restaurant or attraction, mobile users can then use the app to post their own reviews and photos via their handsets for others to access.

"Our collaboration with Nokia further strengthens our commitment to providing trusted and valuable travel advice at home or on the go," said the website’s founder and chief executive Steve Kaufer.

Earlier this year, TripAdvisor revealed the world’s top 25 travel destinations as voted for by European travellers.

Byron Bay in Australia took the number one spot, while Queenstown in New Zealand, Cusco in Peru and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil also made the cut.
