Gap year travellers have been advised that Mozambique is the perfect destination thanks to its vast game parks, pristine beaches and colourful capital city.
In an article for the Telegraph newspaper, travel journalist Anna Murphy said the Gorongosa reserve is one of the main reasons to visit the country.
Travellers can drive or walk through the park, accompanied by an expert guide who will point out wildlife and along the way.
"After three nights at Gorongosa I was reluctant to leave," said Ms Murphy.
"It is absolutely the place to come if you want to experience African ‘otherness’ and just you and the bush."
The writer also spent time in the island of Benguera where she relaxed on white-sand beaches and stunning blue seas.
She said the diving on Benguera is said to be some of the best in the world, while the seafood is second to none.
The third stop on her tour of Mozambique was the city of Maputo, where she found Art Deco architecture and Miami-style villas.
"Mozambique had been everything I hoped," Ms Murphy insisted.
