Jackiey Budden, the 51-year-old mother of reality TV star Jade Goody, caused a terror alert at Gatwick this week when her sense of humour failed to register with airport officials.

The mother of Goody, who died last month after a battle with cervical cancer, attempted to pass through check-in when she was asked if she was carrying any dangerous items.

She replied: "Only my gun".

This sparked an alert which saw her subjected to a strip search and prompted officials to go "through her luggage with a fine-tooth comb", according to a spokesperson for Thompson, through which she booked her trip to Tenerife.

"It was total chaos," the representative continued. "Then the captain decided he did not want her and there were some frantic calls from head office to persuade him."

Ms Budden also dabbled briefly in reality TV, appearing alongside her daughter, model Danielle Lloyd, son-in-law Jack Tweed and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty in the fifth installation of Celebrity Big Brother.
