While many travellers leave holiday bookings until last minute, it seems most prefer to plan ahead and get themselves organised.
According to research from Sainsbury’s Credit Cards, 29.5 per cent of people book their trips between three and five months before their travel date.
A further 26 per cent make bookings six months to a year in advance, while five per cent arrange their holiday over a year before they leave.
Just 19.4 per cent put off booking until they are one or two months ahead of travelling, while 11 per cent make arrangements between two and four weeks in advance.
Only five per cent wait until two weeks prior to their departure to get their break booked.
For those taking gap years, substantial forward planning may be required, especially for those visiting more than one country.
As well as visas, immunisations and insurance, backpackers may also need to organise their finances before taking their trip of a lifetime.
