A visit to Costa Rica could be the ideal destination for gap year travellers in search of exotic attractions, it has been suggested.
The country is the main draw for tourists heading towards Central America, Suite101 contributor Matthew Holiday reports.
People from across the planet head to the destination to experience its beaches, rainforests and mountains, the expert noted.
Costa Rica is home to some "spellbinding natural wonders" and one of the best ways to see these locations is to hike, Mr Holiday advised.
He recommended a venture to Rincon de la Vieja National Park and La Selva Biological Station as they both include "beautiful trails".
Visitors might also like to make their way to Arena National Park to see the rainforest and old lava flows, the reporter added.
The Central America Tourism Agency recently observed the area is increasing in popularity among backpackers, as 1,515,216 individuals came to the region in January and February of this year.
