Malaysian authorities have expressed their intentions to ensure that children are exposed to the English language from a younger age.
In news that may be of interest to those teaching English overseas, the education ministry has conveyed plans to improve the curriculum at kindergartens and extend the amount of time students spend exposed to English by a further 50 per cent, informs the Malaysian Insider.
Additionally, more checks and supervision will be conducted in primary schools, the department’s head Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin stated, along with the recruitment of quality teachers.
"If we want to start teaching them from an early age, we need quality teachers … who are teachers with degrees," the minister is quoted by the publication as stating.
Last month, the same newspaper reported that the Malaysian government plans to make it easier for professionals from overseas to settle within the country’s borders.
