London ‘should offer transport services’ during Christmas

Posted 24 Dec 2008

London ''should offer transport services'' during Christmas Those wishing to use London’s public transport system this Christmas should not be hindered by closures and restricted services, it has been claimed.

Individuals embarking upon gap year travel, or visiting London over the festive season should not have to face difficulties, according to campaigners and politicians, reported thisislondon.co.uk.

Throughout the capital city, tubes, buses and trains will be stopped on Christmas Day, with reduced services on Boxing Day.

John Grogan, Labour MP and transport campaigner, said: "We’ve got all of the shops open and major events on Boxing Day so it really is odd that transport is so reduced. It’s a long time for London to go to sleep."

Liberal Democrat London Assembly transport spokeswoman Caroline Pidgeon added that though maintenance is being carried out, more should be done to ensure that people can reach the capital’s businesses and shops.

In other London travel news, Boris Johnson last month pledged £15,000 to campaigns against the expansion of Heathrow airport.
