Although the 2010 World Cup in South Africa is an exciting prospect for any sports fan, affording it may be a problem.

However, i-to-i has come up with the perfect alternative to raiding your savings – combining volunteering abroad with a trip to the football-filled nation in 2010.

The six projects will be located in the idyllic coastal town of Fish Hoek, which is close to Cape Town, in June and July next year, where they will be at the heart of the world’s football excitement.

Among the volunteering abroad opportunities available are working with orphans and disadvantaged children to improve their futures, assisting abandoned animals and even surfing on the crystal South African waves.

Plus, once the first matches kick-off on June 11th, volunteers who want to catch a game will be able to jump on the train and be in Cape Town in just 40 minutes.

Tickets for the 2010 World Cup tournament are being sold in stages, with the second phase currently in operation and scheduled to close on November 16th 2009.
