Kenya Airways donates to anti-famine cause

Posted 09 Aug 2011

Kenya Airways donates to anti-famine cause Kenya Airways has reinforced its commitment to a fundraising initiative that seeks to alleviate the country's suffering caused by famine.

The scheme, dubbed Kenyans for Kenya, aims to help those in the north of the nation lacking in adequate food supplies.

Taking part in a number of measures to help the campaign, the airline is donating ten million Kenyan shillings (£65,418) too.

Among the schemes designed to raise money for the charity is one where staff are being encouraged to donate surplus clothes.

And customers can get involved too, as the carrier is allowing frequent fliers to donate their air miles to the cause, which will then be converted into Kenyan shillings and donated via the Kenya Red Cross.

Passengers without air miles to donate can still make a difference by offering loose change during their flight as part of the 'Change makes Change' program.

These schemes may appeal to gap year students keen to support the destinations they are visiting, such as those taking part in volunteer travel.

Meanwhile, SOS Children's Villages has revealed it will be launching a program to aid those worst affected by the famine in the country.
