Gap year travellers hoping to include India on their journey might be pleased to know that tourism in the country is on the up.
A press release by Annonline has shown the country has experienced a growth in the industry of 54,000 foreign tourists in the last year.
This equates to a 12.9 per cent increase from this time 12 months ago.
Summer could see a sector that has suffered since the global recession make something of a recovery with elevated traveller numbers.
The company stated the Taj Mahal at Agra remains the country’s most popular attraction for first-time visitors, while other can experience the "exotic liveliness" of the Land of Kings.
Adventure tourism, pilgrimage walks and yoga tours are all expected to increase over the coming months.
It was recently reported that Goa is one of the most environmentally-friendly resorts in India as it effectively combines turtle conservation and tourism.
