Gap year adventurers usually have little luggage but one expert has indicated how travellers can pack even lighter.

Michele Betzner, fashion and beauty expert for the HolidayExtras.com Expert Panel, listed three suggestions for ideal packing.

Firstly, she recommended laying everything out before putting it in the suitcase to avoid packing identical items.

Then she advised travellers to limit themselves to basic colours like black, white and grey which can be coordinated with colourful accessories.

On a final note, Ms Betzner suggested that all shoes be tried on before they are placed in the case.

The tips were given after a report from HolidayExtras.com revealed that many Britons are packing too much when they go away and are returning home with several articles of clothing unworn.
