Hostelworld has announced the winners of its second annual Hoscar awards – the hostel community’s equivalent of the Oscars.
Those taking a gap year in Asia may like to pay a visit to Sitting in the City Walls Courtyard Hostel in the Chinese capital, Beijing, as the accommodation won the best hostel in Asia gong for 2009.
It also won the accolade of China‘s best hostel in 2008’s ceremony.
Coming in second place this year for Asia’s best accommodation option was the Chinese Box Courtyard Hostel, which is also in the capital city.
Nagasaki International Youth Hostel in Japan placed third.
"The Hoscar awards are extremely important to both hostels around the world and their customers. They are based on user ratings and reviews, a key reason why customers book with us," Hostelworld.com’s vice-president of accommodation relations Carmel Dunne explained.
Once they have their accommodation booked, those on a gap year in China may wonder how they can get around the country in a cheap and efficient way.
According to Guardian columnist Paul Simon last week, taking the train is the prefect solution.
