Holidaymakers ''unprepared'' for trouble The majority of British travellers would not know what to do if they ran into trouble in a foreign country, it has been revealed.

A recent study carried out by Holiday Extras revealed that 65 per cent of Britons wouldn’t know how to react if their airline or tour operator went into liquidation while they were away.

Travellers aged under 25 were described as particularly "naive", with 78 per cent unsure of how to react if they find themselves in trouble.

In response to the findings, Holiday Extras has compiled a list of top travel tips, with holidaymakers strongly advised to check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website before they travel.

Keeping copies of all paperwork is also advisable and travellers should ensure they take out a comprehensive insurance policy.

"If you suffer an accident or illness abroad, ensure you collect evidence that will allow you to make a claim. Keep detailed notes, take photographs and if other people are affected too, make sure that you get their contact details too," said Mike Imparato, a travel claims lawyer from Holiday Extras.
