One optometrist enjoyed her experience of volunteering abroad so much that she just keeps on doing it, it has been revealed.
The practitioner from Jackson in Michigan cancelled a winter break three years ago to travel to Peru and volunteer abroad, reports MLive.com.
There, she helped those with poor vision and enjoyed her experience so much that she has returned four times.
"You go once and you’re hooked," she told the publication. "These people dont have a chance otherwise. The first time you put glasses on their face, they just brighten up and smile."
Her adventures have inspired the son of the medical centre where she works to become an optometrist and her assistant has also now decided to join the volunteering abroad project.
Elsewhere in the US, more people from Florida are signing up to volunteer abroad with the Peace Corps, the organisation’s latest statistics have revealed.
