Have a Titanic time on a gap year down under

Posted 30 Sep 2010

Have a Titanic time on a gap year down under Gap year travellers exploring Melbourne during their gap year in Australia can head to an exciting exhibition of artefacts from the sunken Titanic.

The items will be on display at Melbourne Museum until November 7th 2010, providing visitors with a unique glimpse into the past.

As well as numerous treasures recovered from the bottom of the ocean, the exhibition also features detailed reconstructions of the ship's interior.

These include the grand staircase, which was carefully replicated in the 1997 movie Titanic, and the first and third class cabins.

Visitors will be able to hear how the supposedly unsinkable ship did in fact go under and listen to stories from those who survived.

Melbourne Museum is also home to several permanent exhibitions, including the Dinosaur Walk, the Melbourne Story, the Human Body and Forest Secrets.

Upcoming temporary displays include Mirror, which will display the work of children's author and artist Jeannie Baker, and Mulana: Spirit, which is an exhibition of works by Aboriginal artist Megan Cadd.
