Government urges: Make sure your trip is financially protected

Government urges: Make sure your trip is financially protected In the midst of the recession, the British government has published some guidelines urging people to check that their gap year trips are covered should their travel agent come up against financial problems.

Through its website, YouGov is offering advice on how to make sure your trip abroad is protected financially against such occurrences – though the chances of your travel provider going bankrupt are still quite slim.

Jim Fitzpatrick, the British transport minister, stated: "There are numerous types of financial protection available, so the launch of the holiday protection information on Directgov aims to outline the facts and help you make the right decisions according to your travel plans."

Some travel firms to succumb to the pressures of the recession in recent months are XL and Freedom Direct Holidays.
