Gap year travellers ‘may like to shop in Bangkok’

Posted 08 Mar 2010

Gap year travellers ''may like to shop in Bangkok'' Gap year travellers looking to purchase something special on their excursion may want to check out the shopping districts in Bangkok, as a travel website has recommended the city’s retail options.

Writing for Suite101.com, Nicolas Henrion has compiled a list of the best districts in Thailand’s capital for the pastime, affirming: "Shopaholics love Bangkok and Bangkok loves them."

Mr Henrion labelled Siam Paragon the "most beautiful and luxurious" merchandising region in the country – an area that includes an entertainment zone and the only Imax screen in Thailand.

Siam Centre is an older venue, yet tends to draw in a younger crowd after a recent renovation and offers "delicious" cuisine in its top-floor food court.

Around 2,000 retailers – mostly independent – can be found at Mahboonkrong in the very heart of the city.

The mountain resort Phu Chaisai in Thailand was recently recommended by another Suite101.com writer – Scott McGregor – who called the destination an ideal retreat.
