Gap year travellers heading to China might want to make the Great Wall one of their primary destinations as they can follow in the footsteps of an author who has brought out a book about the monument.
William Lindesay has written the work The Great Wall Revisited to share his passion of the historic landmark, Suite101.com reports.
The largest of all UNESCO World Heritage Sites, standing at approximately 5,000 km long, it was first visited by the British geologist and marathon runner in 1986, where he spent nine months running and hiking along the structure.
He decided to return in 2004, armed with a camera, to re-photograph places that he had vintage pictures of other travellers attending from years earlier.
Mr Lindesay spent three years collecting the snaps – which now make up the travel book.
Earlier in the month, the website recommended that travellers should visit the city of Nanjing in China, to combine historically-significant sightseeing with relaxing scenic tours.
