Gap year travellers ‘could drive though’ New Zealand

Posted 26 May 2010

Gap year travellers ''could drive though'' New Zealand A fun way of getting around during a gap year stay in New Zealand could be by car.

The pursuit has been earmarked by Suite101.com contributor Wendy Craig, who explained that a trip along the Twin Coast Discovery Highway can enable travellers to experience many different aspects of the country.

It is a circular road that begins in Auckland, heads up the coast of Northland and to the tip of Cape Reinga before returning down the other coast back to the nation’s largest city.

Ms Craig reported that such an expedition will allow participants to see "beautiful beaches", areas of historical interest, "bustling townships" and "majestic forests".

As well as the destinations, the adventure could result in getting to meet "talented artists" and craftspeople and stopping of at wineries and farmlands.

Daily Mail reporter Jonathan Ray recently recommended New Zealand as an ideal setting for surf-lovers to enjoy the sport.
