Gap year travellers visiting New Zealand could attend a sailing extravaganza as one of its cities is in the grips of a boat celebration.
Auckland is hosting the Festival of Sail and a number of happenings are occurring in the city to mark the occasion.
This includes the return to the country of the America’s Cup – after a seven-year absence – for a three-day visit.
The Louis Vuitton Trophy also continues until the weekend as teams battle it out to be crowned champions.
Between March 21st and 25th, the BMW Sailing World Cup Final takes centre stage at the festival, in which amateur sailors from seven international teams race in identical vessels in an effort to decide who has the best racing crew.
Air New Zealand recently unveiled plans to increase its domestic flight capacity in 2011 in preparation for an expected increase in tourists arriving for the Rugby World Cup.
