Students planning a gap year in Indonesia are advised that there are plenty of events to attend in Bali.
According to Lonely Planet's Indonesia author Adam Skolnick, the island is home to a variety of festivals.
He adds that visitors are best-off staying in Bali either between March and April or September and October.
This way, travellers can avoid the peak season of July and August, which he claims can be rather crowded.
Among the events he notes may be of interest to holidaymakers is the Hindu New Year – known locally as Nyepi – which typically occurs in March or April.
"Most temples throughout Bali celebrate Galungan and Kuningan – twin holidays set ten days apart – in grand style with temple ceremonies, Barong marches and dances and family feasts," Mr Skolnick states, adding there are also yoga and music festivals to enjoy.
And those currently on a gap year in Bali might be interested in attending the Kuta Karnival, which is set to take place next month.
Based on Kuta Beach, the nine-day event will feature kite displays, DJs, movie screenings and a food festival.
