Galapagos Islands ‘needs sustainable travel’

Posted 05 Aug 2011

Galapagos Islands ''needs sustainable travel'' Gap year travellers considering visiting the Galapagos Islands should make sure they do so responsibly, according to one expert.

Chief executive at the Galapagos Conservation Trust Toni Dalton claims that only those who are genuinely interested in experiencing this destination's natural wonders should include it on their itineraries.

And those who decide to travel there, he adds, need to plan carefully to ensure they do so in a responsible and sustainable fashion.

"The amazing thing about Galapagos is that 95 per cent of the original biodiversity is still intact and the birds and animals are as tame as they were when Charles Darwin visited in 1825," comments Mr Dalton.

Meanwhile, cruising the Galapagos Islands recently made the top spot in a compilation of the best travel experiences compiled by Wanderlust magazine.

This was the publication's first list of must-do experiences during travel, with discovering natural sights dominating its results.
