Delhi ‘a must-see’ during a 2010 gap year in India

Delhi ''a must-see'' during a 2010 gap year in India Those on a gap year in India next year should head to Delhi, it has been asserted, as the city is one of the hottest destinations to head to in 2010.

This is according to the latest recommendations of travel guide publisher Dorling Kindersley, which has singled-out the city ahead of its hosting of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, reports the Times.

According to the newspaper, Delhi has been highlighted by the publisher due to its increased efforts to clean itself up and position itself as a more welcoming place for visitors.

It states: "The city’s monuments are being cleaned and revitalised and improved transport links are opening up the city."

However, the publication adds that the changes have not been made at the expense of tradition, as "bullock carts [are] still plodding placidly alongside the latest luxury car[s]".

Dorling Kindersley’s recommendation comes after Phil Durham, a representative from partnership Travel, said that from its rural Himalayan regions to the man-made glory of the Taj Mahal, India "has got it all".
