Travellers heading off on a career break in Kenya might want to time their visit to coincide with the Mombasa Carnival, which takes place in November, according to one expert.
Angie Sloan, UK director at the Kenya Tourist Board, claims that by watching the festivities, visitors can get a "unique insight into this Kenyan custom".
Explaining that it features two main parades, she notes that traditional music and extravagant costumes can be enjoyed as the processions join together on Moi Avenue.
"The Mombasa Carnival in November is a colourful array of parades and floats representing the diverse range of Kenya's cultures and religions," Ms Sloan enthuses.
Meanwhile, Fort Jesus in Mombasa has recently been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status – something that may encourage travellers taking a career break in the destination to visit it.
The fortification was an important transit point for the slave trade and commodities and today houses a museum displaying period artefacts.
