Chiang Mai University has shown its support for TEFL courses by offering people the chance to win a pair of free scholarships.
The academic institution, which states it is the largest – and most renowned – Thai institute of higher education outside Bangkok, explains that a degree or diploma in such a subject is recognised by employers the world over.
"Currently, we have TEFL graduates working all over south-east Asia, China, Korea, Japan, Europe, the US and Australia," the university explains, noting that people who have certificates from TEFL courses are particularly highly regarded in Thailand.
The deadline for submissions in the contest is December 31st and applicants are invited to write a 300-word essay that tells the academic institution – which has more than 36,000 enrolled students – why they want to become involved in teaching English overseas.
Winning entries will be announced in the second week of January 2009.
