Charley Boorman: Volunteering abroad is a good feeling

Posted 19 Nov 2009

Charley Boorman: Volunteering abroad is a good feeling TV adventurer and actor Charley Boorman has said that travelling like a gap year adventurer and volunteering abroad is the best option to take.

He told the Daily Mail that heading out somewhere and "picking up work" along the way is the most rewarding method of travel.

"You really get a good feeling of where you are because you’re working in that area, you get a better feel instead of just seeing the tourist side," he continued.

Many people may have initially known him as the companion of Ewan McGregor, but Boorman appears to be gaining ground as a traveller in his own right – having since filmed By Any Means and its sequel.

By Any Means 2 saw the intrepid Brit travel from Sydney to Tokyo via the Pacific Rim and was aired by the BBC.

His first travel series, along with McGregor, was Long Way Round and saw the pair tackle the plains of several Asian countries on the back of motorbikes.
