Celebrate Taiwan National Day in Taipei Travellers planning to visit China in October as part of their gap year may want to time their trip to coincide with the island's National Day.

Marking the 100th year since the creation of the Republic of China, Double Ten Day – as the celebration is dubbed – is set to be a vibrant and colourful event, according to the Taiwan Tourism Bureau.

Marketing manager for the organisation Josephine Huang advises that the best place to join in the festivities is Taipei, where she claims there will be a lot going on for visitors to get involved with.

Parades, music and fireworks are all expected to feature in the festivities.

Double Ten Day will officially start when the Republic of China flag is raised outside the Presidential Building and the national anthem is sung, while Ms Huang highlights the closing ceremony in Taipei looks set to be something special.

"The evening fireworks, which bring the celebrations to a conclusion, are always spectacular," she adds.
