Buying a caravan can be seen as a lifestyle choice and a “statement of intent”, the editor of CaravanTimes.co.uk has said.
Marcus Dubois of the online community explained that caravans are an environmentally friendly option for travel.
This could inspire a number of gap year adventurers to buy or hire a caravan so that they can limit their carbon footprint when they visit different countries.
“Green holidaymakers can take pride in their choice being the most eco-friendly,” Mr Dubois noted.
“We recently looked at research from Lancaster University which found an overnight stay by two guests in a touring caravan produces around 4kg of carbon dioxide. This was compared with almost 500kg of carbon dioxide for a return flight to Spain.”
The comments come ahead of the Caravan Extravaganza 2010, which is to be held in Cottingham this weekend (September 4th and 5th).
