British Airways (BA) is set to operate a flight to Ethiopia on August 12th in order to deliver emergency supplies as the food crisis continues.
The airline will be carrying emergency medical items and food from UNICEF, as well as pipe from Oxfam, which will be used to supply the Dolo Ado refugee camp with water.
BA passengers – which could include those travelling on a career break – are able to help out with the aid initiatives by providing donations during flights.
"The worst drought in 50 years means the lives of millions of people hang in the balance. The generosity of our customers will make a real and tangible difference to those in desperate need," comments British Airways' chief executive Keith Williams.
For the two weeks from August 1st, any contributions made onboard a BA flight will be given to the Disasters Emergency Committee to help relieve the situation in East Africa.
Kenya Airways has also pledged support of its own by donating ten million Kenyan shillings (£65,418), as well as running a range of fundraising schemes.
