A gap year travel through Australia might not be complete without a stop-off in the country’s Northern Territory.
Wanderlust magazine deputy editor Sarah Baxter has recommended a visit to the region while speaking to Metro.
The expert noted the area stretches from Darwin and down to the Red Centre, which is home to Uluru – formerly known as Ayers Rock.
Natives are not keen for tourists to scale the landmark but travellers might want to try their hand at climbing nearby Mt Conner instead, Ms Baxter remarked.
From there, visitors can venture to Arnhem Land to see rock art and encounter "the most authentic indigenous experiences", before taking to a canoe at Katherine Gorge and coming face-to-face with crocodiles in Kakadu, she added.
While in the country, wine lovers may want to make their way to Tasmania as the island state has been recognised for its viticulture by being named host of the next International Cool Climate Wine Symposium.
