Gap year travellers have long been heading to Australia but now a poll has shown that the country is one of the top destinations to visit.
The Asia Pacific Travel Intentions Survey 2010 from the Visa – Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) revealed that travellers prefer Australia to any other location in the region.
Japan is another firm favourite for holidaymakers and gap year adventurers, while Thailand, mainland China and Singapore also featured in the list.
Ross Jackson, head of Cross-Border Business in Asia Pacific at Visa, said that Australia‘s “great natural beauty” and Japan’s “rich culture and history” make both the Pacific nations very attractive to visitors.
He added: “With the allure of visiting new places, beautiful natural scenery, affordability and great food the predominant factors in what motivates people to pick a destination, the all round tourism products in these destinations puts them high on any traveller’s list.”
