Gap year travellers heading to Australia might like to attempt some scuba diving as the country has been acclaimed the best place in the Pacific Ocean for the recreation.
A poll held by Scuba Diving magazine attracted over 5,000 responses and it was the southern hemisphere spot that received the most votes, according to Southall Travel.
Participants highlighted the charms of Navy Pier in Western Australia, Rapid Bay Jetty in the south and Bare Island in Sydney.
The publication stated Australia has some of the greatest shore diving sites on the planet, accessible from beaches and piers – alleviating the need to access locations by boat.
Egypt collected the best location award for wreck diving and Thailand was named best value for money.
British journalist Janet Street-Porter recently hailed Bondi Beach in Sydney her favourite place in the world to enjoy the sunshine, citing the golden sands and array of activities on offer.
