American student volunteers in India

American student volunteers in India Those hoping to volunteer abroad might like to draw inspiration from a student from the US who has done just that.

Corey Hunter – from Amherst, Massachusetts – spent three weeks teaching in India, Amherst Daily News reports.

The second-year pupil at Mount Allison University took part in the expedition after taking a trip to Honduras a year earlier, which he found to be a "very empowering experience".

Mr Hunter set off for the scheme in January to teach at three separate education facilities in the country.

He was in Vashundra for about a week-and-a-half, where he taught at a poverty-stricken school with six classrooms and three teachers.

The second placement was at an institution for disabled youngsters and the third was an outdoor centre in the slums.

Last week, it was reported that Gemma Lyons, a graduate from Cambridge University, is set to go on her own volunteering trip to India, where she hopes to improve sanitation in deprived areas.
