In a bid to tackle the lull in travelling that traditionally occurs just after Christmas, airlines have embarked upon an airfare price war, reports state.
Those currently considering or who already are on gap year travel breaks may want to take advantage of the offers from airlines such as British Airways (BA) which is offering return flights to New York from as little as £259.
However, in an attempt to step up the competition, Virgin Atlantic has lowered its prices at £1 below BA’s.
This news could also benefit those considering volunteering abroad.
Richard Tams, spokesperson for BA, stated: "There are real bargains to be had thanks to the combination of our New Year sale and the reduction in the fuel surcharge."
In related news, GapYear.com claimed this week that the popularity of gap years is soaring among both university leavers and those who may have lost their jobs due to the credit crunch.
