One organisation has claimed that Africa's infrastructure can be boosted by giving strategic aid, which may intrigue those interested in volunteer travel.
According to ONE, a global advocacy and campaigning organisation that aims to tackle issues such as preventable disease, poverty and hunger, there are a number of steps that can be taken to help Africa's prospects.
A spokesperson for ONE states that strategic aid is "vital".
"Countries can only prosper if they have a healthy and educated workforce and for this they need schools and hospitals that are properly staffed and well-equipped," he states, adding that this will help to encourage foreign investment.
His comments could inspire students planning a gap year to embark on volunteer travel in the continent, which might help improve these key areas.
Recently, i-to-i revealed that this kind of trip can help the personal development of students, as well as aiding the communities they visit.
