Santiago is a destination that has something to offer everyone, according to one expert, which may prompt gap year travellers to include the city on their itineraries.
Cristian Lopez, UK director at ProChile, claims that there is such a wide range of things to do in the Chilean capital that it appeals to all kinds of visitors.
He explains that by travelling to the city, people can explore sites such as Valparaiso – a world heritage port – as well as wine valleys and coastal towns.
Meanwhile, those interested in art will find plenty of galleries and museums to keep them occupied, he says.
And when it comes to accommodation, there are "new and contemporary hostels for backpackers", comments Mr Lopez.
Previously, he has praised Santiago for its strong transport links, which he stated make it easier for visitors to travel around the city – and to destinations throughout the rest of the country.
