Some gap year travel stories are bound to turn heads when you recount them back at home, but there is no place quite like South Africa to brag about.
This is according to Lyn Hughes, founder of travel magazine Wanderlust, who said that she finds her stories of gliding above wild animals in Africa in a microlight really bring the room to a standstill.
"South Luangwa National Park in Zambia is known for its walking safaris. But, for a different experience, soar like an eagle above the wilderness and wildlife," she told the publication.
Ms Hughes recounted her experiences of sweeping over lionesses, zebra, elephants and flowing rivers in the exotic country.
Meanwhile, those who want to get a unique insight into Africa could consider i-to-i’s new volunteering abroad in Zanzibar project.
It offers adventurous travellers seeking exotic surroundings the chance to work with disadvantaged children in the Unesco site Stone Town.
