Will you be in Quito for around a week after your placement? There is plenty to see here: the Old town which is really beautiful for its colonial architecture, taking the cable car up to 4,200 mts and having a great view of the city, going to the cloud forest of Mindo (2 hours away from Quito) or Papallacta Hot Springs to relax! As for your questions on what to pack, for Quito, you need to have clothing in layers because you there is a wide range of temperature in a day (it can be really warm by midday and then a little chilly at night time, for example). The temperature in Galapagos, for the time that you will be there will range between approx. 15 to 30 degrees Celsious.
I look forward to meeting you soon! Let me know if you have more any questions! Bye for now!
