Hello one and all!!!! I'm giving a big shout out now to anyone who has any info on Buenos aires. Its the final countdown for me so I'm getting nervous and excited. I'd really, really like to hear from anyone who has been travelling in Argentina before. Or even better, if you will be there at the same time as me, 9th April to 12th May!! Could you fill me in on your adventure. I'd realy appreciate any tips or advice for my trip. What are the people like? Is the food good? What are the must see tourist sites etc. Write back (pretty please) : }

hi mairead- I went to BsAs in 2009 and had THE BEST TIME!! To say the food is good is a serious understatement, you'll have the best steak & wine you will ever have - at jaw dropping prices. No doubt you'll go to many steak houses when you're there. El Bagual is a fab one that Brenda (the i-to-i coordinator in Buenos Aires) will probably take you to. Please give Brenda a BIG HUG from me and tell her Id come visit her and the children at La Casita in a heartbeat!
Hi Mairead, I went to BA in 2002. Loved every minute of it. I was a bit wary of what to expect ( Falklands and all that) but the Argentines were the most friendly people. I am going to Posadas next January and spending a week in BA as well. Highlights in BA include Recoleta, go to the cemetery where Eva Peron is buried, you must see a tango show too, also I went to a trip on the River Tigre a few miles outside BA which was great. I also flew to Uruguay as well, but if you only have a day get a boat to Colonia in Uruguay, one hour trip across the River Plate, its a UNESCO world heritage site. And for a reminder of Argentina's bloody history, 3.30pm on a Thursday in Plaza De Mayo you will see the mothers of the 'Disappeared' walking around the square demanding to know what happened to their sons in the Dirty War. Heartbreaking. Other than that its such a fab and friendly city. And yes if you can get to Iguazu, but you may need another trip for that. Enjoy
Hi Mairead,
Hope you are well, I am working at i-to-i at the moment and I went to Buenos Aires a couple of years ago and it was amazing, one of my top cities in the world! I was only there for about a week, which isn't that long, but the city is so vibrant and lively you can squeeze a lot into a short amount of time. The people are very friendly (and very attractive!) so I wouldnt worry about that. Regarding food, as you may already know Argentina is very famous for its steaks...so if your a beef lover, or even meat in general, it the place for you!...Although I didn't and still managed to eat well, there are many fancy restaurants around the city centre, however I am sure you will get recommendations when you are there from the locals. The city is also great for shopping if that is what you enjoy, also nightclubs and DANCING...this is a BIG part of Argentina's culture.
As for typical 'touristy' type things I did the usual city tour, which I found quite interesting actually, it dropped us off at the famous football stadium and a cafe close by so we could look around the streets of La Boca in our own time, the are is very colourful and has lots of stalls to buy touristy gifts etc.
Depending on how long you are in Argentina for I would definately recommend go to the world famous Iguassu Falls, It is a very long trip from BA but well worth seeing if you are there for a while.
I hope this helps a little...hope your more excited than nervous!! :)
