I think you are on the same trip that i am planning to go to in June 2010 (Big 5 reserve in Sidbury). I'ver never travelled before and am a little apprehensive about it but your journal entries are very helpful and reassuring. Would be great if you could offer me any useful tips from your time there.
Hiya
Hope you don't mind but I'm shamelessly begging for votes (in 5th place right now!)
This competition literally means everything to me. I'm now truly beginning to discover who I am, and find the path I need to be on. Winning this trip of a lifetime, one that from a financial point of view I cannot ever really seeing myself being able to afford, would literally change my life, shake up my world and give me another perspective. I beg of you to vote for me more than any other competitor, because not only would I use up every single second of it to the nth degree and make the absolute most of it, I think it would make the most of me. A way to make new connections, spark new possibilities, and give light and hope. A trip to expand and explore, my location and my own mind. A trip. Of a lifetime. PLEASE VOTE FOR ME!
The other animals at the park that we helped with were the meerkats (v cute but smelly poo!), the cheetah, jackal, two tigers and the hyenas - all good fun! I worked in a vets and on a farm a long time ago (when I was in secondary school) so have worked with tonnes of animals before. Having a passion for animals generally does help you have a great time at the park.
Hope you have a fantastic time! (And if you get a picture of Tigger post it up - would love to see him as a big lion!)
I had an absolute ball at the park! Absolutely no need to be scared. Whilst you're there you will help look after the animals, take people on game drives, clean out cages and sell giraffe food in the sun.... (it's not hard work!)
Some of my highlights: getting kissed by a giraffe (Purdy is just gorgeous!!!); having Tigger, a 2mth baby lion, fall asleep in my arms in the middle of a thunderstorm; having my hand licked by Ohnus, the adult leopard; seeing a pride of lions feeding just metres from me; visiting Soweto and making friends with some really brilliant people. It's all in my blog - if you want a better idea of what you get up to on a day to day basis feel free to have a peek.
We didn't actually make it to Pretoria on our last three days - the park asked us to stay on so we changed our plans and stayed with the cubs (it wasn't really a hard choice!).
Let me know if you need any further help otherwise have a fantastic trip!
