If you're getting confused about your Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check, please read on for the answers to some Frequently Asked Questions!

Should I be completing a CRB check?
Only UK residents who are taking part in a teaching or community project need to complete a CRB check. You should have received a form in your Welcome Pack if we need you to do the check, but if you're unsure please give us a call or leave a comment here.

Which sections of the form should I fill in?
Only sections A, B, C, D and H. Please leave all the other sections on the form blank.

What identification should I send with my form?
You should send one piece of ID from Group 1 and two from Group 2. If you don't have anything from Group 1 you should send five pieces from Group 2. Information about what ID fits into each group can be found in the booklet we sent you with your form, or you can call us to discuss it further. Please make sure that at least one of the documents you send us shows your address!

Can I send photocopies or certified copies of my identification documents?
No, sorry. We need to see the original documents.

I've already completed a CRB for my current job. Is this sufficient?
If the check has been carried out recently (within the last 12 months) and is an enhanced disclosure then we will accept this instead of you needing to fill out a new form. You should send us a photocopy of the disclosure form, or email a scan over.

Should I include all my university addresses?
If you have been living in halls/shared accommodation during university but returning home during the holidays then we do not need to see all of the temporary addresses. You should put your permanent home address in Section A.

I have criminal convictions. Will I be allowed to travel?
This really depends on the nature of your convictions, and when they were committed. We will look at each disclosure individually and give you a call to discuss things in more detail. i-to-i reserves the right to refuse to take a volunteer, should the CRB show any fact that would - in the opinion of i-to-i - potentially threaten any aspect of our overseas projects.

Can I use correction fluid on the form?
No. If you make a mistake you should cross it through and write the correction clearly to the right of your mistake. If there are too many mistakes on your form and you'd like a new one please give us a call and we'll send one out!

Hopefully that will help you when you're completing your CRB! Please get in touch if you have any more questions not answered here :)

Hey summer25,

Yes you will need a visa, you can get one on entry for around £25 or you can apply beforehand. Generally you will need a tourist visa and you can find out more here: http://kenya.embassyhomepage.com/kenyan_visa_information_kenya_visa_service_cheap_flights_kenya_hotels_nairobi_travel_insurance_kenya_embassy_london.htm

Hi, I was convicted if drink driving a very long time ago. It's almost 10 years ago now.

I'm not sure if this is classed as a motoring offence or a criminal conviction? In section H of the CRB form it asks if you have any unspent 'criminal convictions' and I don't know if should tick yes or no?

Do you have any advice?

Thanks

Hi all,
I just wanted to clarify that all nationalities who work with children require a police check when travelling on one of our trips. We carry out CRB checks in the UK and can assist for Australian and New Zealand customers too. For all other countries we will request that you obtain a police check and send it through to us before you travel. We will send details through if a police check is required after you book. Any questions just give us a call!
