What an eye opening experience I just had. I have just come back from Buenos Aires, Argentina - a wonderful, vibrant, cosmopolitan, city with amazing architecture, art & design, markets, people, STEAK and red wine!

I had the opportunity to visit Centro de Día Casa del Niño one of whose founders is Sylvia (in my pic) - a woman with the patience of a saint and a heart of gold. This is a day care centre for children who live in one of the villas in Escobar and although I didn't get to see what life was like for them there, I could certainly get an understanding of their homelife.

There can be up to 50 children who come here every day- often they come by themselves or accompanied by an older sibling. They want to come because it is a haven for them, a calming environment very different from being at home with their families. They have music lessons & art workshops from some very patient & understanding locals, are fed a meal or two during the day and are often showered and clothed (they come in filthy!)

These children have either been abandoned, abused or are otherwise begging on the streets as they receive little parenting from their families and little support from any other source. It was a most touching and educational experience to learn about this organisation and to fear what life would be like for these children if it did not exist
