Hey guys, Thought I would start a discussion about whos all booked up or been to Africa? When are you planning on going? What placement are you doing? Have you been to Africa before? What Placement did you do? What were the pros and cons? When did you go? What did you take? This would be good for people like me to see whos already been on placements, what they enjoyed about it, any tips for going away? What should we take etc? xLx |

Hey everyone, I am also planning on working with children in Cape Town. ahallman I noticed you said you wanted to do that also but just realized you aren't going until 10'. I am in the process of booking my trip now for the month of August. Have any of you guys previously been to Africa or Cape Town?! Sounds like you guys working with the lions will have quite the adventure! |

I am goinr to the lion park august 25 -september 8 too! I'm sorta nervous, i'v never been outside the u.s., |
Im also working with Lions in South Africa, 27th May - 09th June.I have finally got everything sorted now and really cant wait to get there! |
I'm off to the Lion Park in June, but first day is June 14th. Can't wait to have hands on experience with the cubs but I know I'm going to love the rest of it too. I already do some volunteer work with a local wildlife shelter so kind of know what to expect - I think! Planning on just taking my backpack with some warm clothes and a small daypack to carry camera, water etc while I'm working. Done lots of travelling but this is the first time I've done a volunteer holiday. |

So people who have already been or just about to go, what are yous taking? Is anyone taking a small suticase? or is everyone taking/taken rucksacks? I'm not travelling after (my annual leave from work) so dont have a rucksack and wont need one. Does anyone think it will be ok to take a small suitcase? Annika and Madphil, yous are very lucky to find out now yous are going together as you can discuss everything before you go and will know each other when yous arrive. Do yous realise its only 13 days on the park not 14 so you wont have accomodation on the Monday night? I nearly missed that and thought it was the full 14 days, luckily i didnt book my flights just yet. Anyone going 12th Sept until 25th to the lion park. xx |
i thought it was 10 days at the park and then 4 days in pretoria??? |

Hi Laurissa, definitly only pack clothes that you don't mind getting dirty! depending on which lion project - lion park or lion monitoring - they kit you out with a t-shirt on the work with lions project so stick to khaki or clothes you can throw away - this is what most people take. Ruckscak/suitacse, doesn't really matter, you're not hiking anywhere so whatever you have already can be taken, don't bother buying a new one just to take with you. hope it helps! katie |

Hi Katie, Thanks for that. Im sooo glad I know I can get away with a suitcase now and not to buy clothes to take over. I'm very excited for the trip and cannot wait to get there and get my hands dirty.... unfortunately I can't wash off by jumping in a pond, but oh well. Will anyone else be in Nakuru during July? Can't wait to make new friends from all around the world. Cheers! |
