About Me

I'm 26. I work in social housing in the UK and I'm studying for a masters to go with my job. Outside of work I love festivals, long country walks, charity shops, vegetarian food... and other stuff.

I haven't travelled as much as I'd like to, but I'm planning on using my holiday to take 3 weeks next March/April to go to Nepal with i-to-i to teach English in a Buddhist monastery - hence being on this site.

I'm interested in Tibetan culture and Buddhism - been to a few different meditation groups, try to do it at home but don't always make time for it, love doing yoga too. I believe a natural, holisitic way of life can be a really happy one. I don't focus on success or achievements at all. I just want to enjoy people's company, appreciate nature, benefit others where I can, have fun and be at peace.

I've taught English before for the British Council in France as part of my degree - seems like ages ago now - and I really enjoyed it. I'm excited about getting stickers and flash cards and piuctures of family and pets and stuff ready to take!

I'd like to learn from the monks as well as teach them, and maybe join in with some of their meditations etc. I'm quite independent but of course would love to hear from others interested in the same things and going to the same places - get in touch if that's you!

Hi Esther, Sorry its taken a long time to reply. Life is busy, I have just come back from Kenya. My partner works with US Aid. Just wonderful to see how the poorest of the poor are getting on since US Aid stepped in last year. Glad to hear you enjoy yoga too and hope that it has touched your spirit as it has mine. I will be in Nepal on the 18th of March and staying at the student house in Themel. How about you? Where will you be teaching? My placement is for 4 weeks and then I will taking a trek to Poon Hill for 2 weeks. I have 5 yoga students from Australia arriving on the 18th April to go with me. A lovely way to finish of in Nepal. Hope to get to know you more over the next months before me meet. Light and happiness.
Jill

Hi Esther, Nepal sounds amazing. I've never been but would love to. Are you going to write a blog while you're there? I'd love to read about your adventures!

Sorry to ask, but I was hoping you could spare two minutes to read my Ultimate Trip blog, and rate it if you like it. I'd be really grateful!

Hi there! yep I'm there from the 21st :) Cant wait!!!!! hopefully we'll see each other there!

Wow, that sounds like an amazing opportunity! I hope your job will let you go, it will be invaluable. I personally have not been, but a friend of mine stayed there for over 3 months, mainly because he ran out of money, but also because he didn't want to come back home =) Good Luck!

Ya, I'm set for two weeks teaching in Nepal starting March 21st, so probably be seeing you there!

Hello. I'm on the verge of booking to teach at Buddhist monasteries in Nepal, probably starting 21st March 2010 for 3 weeks - just need to check with work that they'll let me go! It would be great to hear from anyone who's been, or who may be going at that time.
