Is 'green' the new black?

So much of the world's media seems to be full of 'green' issues - itself oh so environmentally friendly on hundreds of thousands of sheets of paper - that it can feel like being 'green' is no longer a belief but a fashion (does anyone really believe celebs and politicians when they spout off?).
Yes - we need to be very concerned about the world and our environment but doesn't it just annoy you when the Hollywood crowd and pious hacks spout off telling us 'civilians' what to do?
Don't know about you but I had far more attachment to environmental issues BEFORE it became imposed on us by talking heads!

No isn't that the tricky one Bosey - consensus on the actual issues. Interesting feature last night on BBC2 Argentina travel programme. The glacies used by Al Gore's move to show huge chunks of ice melting / falling into the ocean is and has actually been stable for 50 years! Not to say that glaciers are not receding but why do the media have to 'cheat' just because the shot looks good- for me anyway it undermines my trust in everything else they show.

I agree, Bruce. It's an unfortunate thing that the 'green' issues become useful tools for political bartering and a good angle for PR! I guess it's a necessary evil to get awareness moving. Also - who defines what's green, and where do we get consensus on the actual issues.

Agree - however, in any situation where it becomes the fashion doesn't the actual cause suffer. Does awareness really equate to action?

I hear what you're saying, however I think the prevelance of the 'green' message these days means that awareness is greater than ever and not just the preserve of the well-educated.
