I am suffering anti-culture shock - the shock of being home. Everything seems so grey and bland compared to the sights sounds and colours of Rio de Janeiro during Carnaval. Its funny cause on the first night I arrived, I went to a party, 65th birthday in fact - which turned out to be more lively and more fun than any other party I have been to. EVER. Caipirhinas with fresh pulverised fruit , a bateria prancing through the lounge room, dancing samba, funky party favours, food and hospitality were all part of the event.
On that night, someone said to me 'there is life before Rio de Janeiro and life after Rio de Janeiro' now I know why.
I think about the children I met at the projects every day and wish I could've spent more time with them. I think about the Brazilian way and being relaxed and enjoying each day as it comes.
Not a day has gone by without thoughts about my time in Rio de Janiero. I miss it terribly and if i could live 2 lives at the same time - one would be here and one would be in Brazil *sigh*

to those of you that will be in Brazil for CARNAVAL - I envy you. It is vibrant, fun, and the liveliest mix of people you could imagine. You need to take a big smile with you, a relaxed vibe, fun clothes to wear to the street parties and a bit of cash for grilled cheese sticks on the beach, a few caipirinhas or some beers!
If you are working at samba city, you will soon see how exclusive the opportunity is. costumes and float designs for each of the samba schools is top secret!! such an amazing experience....
Hey! Sounds amazing...I'm of to the carnival 2010 working in the samba schools. Was your placement directly related to the carnival or were you just lucky enough to be there at the same time?
