Surf School Rio, Ipanema Beach

Posto 7. Ipanema Beach - like nothing you have ever seen before. The beaches are numbered so you have some sort of reference point cause they are SOOOOoooooo long! They are also absolutely packed with people, any time of the day any day of the week - my gawd. Umbrellas & deck chairs, hot bods everywhere, all shapes & sizes, itty bitty bikinis and all brown as berries! We got Cesar from Julio Otoni community to come for the surf lesson as well, and join the other kids from the favelas that come and learn to surf, but he freaked out a bit in the water. He can’t swim and the waves were too full on for him. The poor little hun was so adorable you could just eat him up!

You lucky thing to be off to Brazil and to spend your days volunteering at Ipanema Beach. As I have learned myself, there is life before Rio de Janeiro and life after Rio de Janeiro. You will have an amazing time, you dont need ideas or help just go with the flow and make the most of your time there. Cariocans (the people of Rio de Janeiro) are relaxed and friendly people. Felipe is a wonderful host, you wont want to leave! To find out who will be in Rio at the same time as you, best to send an email to the support team support@i-to-i.com.

Looking forward to seeing some photos of yours up here!

Hey, im off to Rio surf school on the 6th March 2010. Have you guys done the project? How was it? Also im looking for people that will be there at that time. Any ideas or help would be awsome. Thankyou
Si from Manchester

I'd love to go to the surf school in Rio but have never surfed before... have any other beginners done this? I am planning to go surfing a few times before going but obviously don't know how good I will be/get! Also, I can't speak any Portuguese but would like to learn the basics - what is the best way of doing this?

Hi Eli, the beaches are fantastic, such a great vibe there. To spend your days volunteering at the beach helping children & youths from the favelas will be wonderfully rewarding. My advice is to learn a bit of Portuguese. I could only speak spanglish & portugol so I could only ask basic questions. I wanted to share more stories about myself & learn more about them. You can download free language podcasts on iTunes so you can get an ear for Portuguese conversation.

The Baron Garden is lovely and the views from the balcony are just amazing! It is easy to get to on the metro which is cheap and safe. It is just up the hill from Bar do Zé where you can have a nice cold beer and a tasty baguette after a hard day at the beach :)

Hey! I'm gonna do this project next september! How was it? Seems u had a great time looking at your pics... How is the baron garden? It looks very nice with the panoramic view! Do you have any tips for me regarding this project? So impatient to go!
thx and have a nice day,
Eli from brussels :)
