Hey guys, I had such a great time last night, so I thought I’d write a quick blog. For starters, I’m now the proud Auntie of a Master Kai Wiggers, born yesterday, mother and baby doing well – I can’t wait to meet them! I celebrated in style to the African drum (ok so it was the bottom of a water barrel but anything goes here) and danced like an excited child at the news....
So I guess its been another week full of stories and experiences, I seem to find it hard to talk of all the interesting things though because they’re fast becoming normality. Like the camels that spend the evenings outside my compound – the first time I saw them I was pretty surprised but now its just normal and its quite fun to be living near a group of camels, it makes for interesting scenery anyway!...
So much has happened since I last wrote that I don’t even know where to start. It hasn’t been easy this visit, the kids have been working so hard that I haven’t got to see them as much as last time and I’m staying further away as well which means I need to leave earlier to get home before sunset. I saw them this weekend, but they have school even on Saturdays so it’s not...
Hey guys, thought it was about time for another update. A lot has happened this week so I’ll have to pick the most interesting bits. It’s rained a lot this week – so much one day that I was completely drenched and covered in mud. Class 4 have to pass something like a stream to get to class when its raining so when I went to teach them I had to sludge through it and...
A week on... Mambo! (that’s hello round here) Its taken a while but here’s my first blog. I’ve been here a week now, and so much has happened already. For starters it took 48 hours to get here as my flight from Amsterdam to Mombasa was delayed by over a day and then we still nearly didn’t go – we got to the plane and then a thunder storm broke out and we had to...
Hey guys, Can't write for long today as Namu is teaching me to make chipati's tonight :) But just wanted to write a short post as I only have 4 days left so not much time left to write. I had a very full weekend, didn't go to the beach on saturday in the end as a different school came to visit new hope so the kids were busy. Instead, I went to buy some...
Hey guys, Time for another quick installment... I realised I didn't tell you guys about my birthday celebrations!! Well, it was on the wednesday and we went to a nice restaurant called pilipili, I had fried beef and rice done very well and I know everyone else enjoyed their food too...it was nice that I had people to celebrate it with even though I'm in a different country and away from family. Thanks for all...
Hey guys, time for another exciting installment of Chagit's adventures... I'm afraid it might not be a long one today as one of my adventures was to the hospital today with food poisoning but hopefully the medicine they gave me will help me to recover quickly and I can come back and tell you some more. I went on safari with two of the other volunteers at the weekend, it was amazing! We (me, Nat,...
Hey guys, Here's my second post, not bad eh for only a couple of days after the first one :) So...I went to Mamba village on Sunday, a crocodile farm! It was really cool, there must have been more than a thousand crocodiles there, really crazy. I went round with the guide who showed us them all, we saw ones of all sizes up to the 'big daddy' who is over 100 years old and...
Hey guys, So here goes my first blog entry...I'm in Mombasa! Woop! I've been here for a week now and am having an amazing time. The kids at the orphanage are really great and I'm enjoying getting to spend a lot of time with them and getting to know them all. I go to school for around 9 unless I'm taking the class when I have to be there at 8. School is really long...
