My ideal situation! – No restriction on time or money - why isn’t this really true?!!lol
However it’s a good job I have spent many hours during my 21 years on this earth, imagining this was in fact the case and I was off to the airport that very second to embark on the travels of quite literally my dreams!
Should you be a believer of astrology or have even the slightest knowledge of the zodiac signs, just to let you know I am a Sagittariun to a t!
I constantly want to hop onboard a mode of transport with a destination I have never experienced before, exposing me to new cultures, diverse landscapes and memorable encounters. This epitomises the innate love I have for travel and my inextinguishable desire to educate and expand my knowledge of the world further.
The idea of purely ‘visiting’ a place is one that does not appeal to me, whereas experiencing, learning and fully submersing myself somewhere, is something I constantly strive for.
The concept of having all the time in the world and funds to match, whilst also removing international barriers, conflicts and laws would permit me to cross all borders and embark on my ultimate trip.
Overly ambitious and in some cases unrealistic (the perks of this competition however is it doesn’t have to be!) my ultimate journey would see me travel to all corners of the world, taking each continent at a time, unrushed yet with vigour and not confined to the mundane workings of an itinerary.
Unable to select one specific route, as any path that included unique experiences and adventure, incorporating volunteering, wildlife, community and teaching aspects, would be classed in my eyes as the ultimate trip.
Particular events of past travels of whale watching and climbing the Franz Josef Glacier in New Zealand, living with the Maasai warriors in Kenya and detailing the wildlife for conservation purposes, paragliding over the Alps, waking up to prayers in Morocco, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, caring for orphans in Ghana, camping with the Navajo Indians and flying over the Grand Canyon, are just a handful of incredible opportunities that have allowed me to see what is out there!
I am aware that I have merely scratched the surface of the enormous list of places covering the globe. Therefore within my ideal trip, a journey to the world’s most renowned sightseer destinations would be an inevitable stop, landing in Egypt, where I could witness the great pyramids and take a hot air balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings, then whipping on my trainers and running for dear life with the bulls in Pamplona, keeping them on to walk the Great Wall of China, and explore the Colosseum in Rome (of course in a different, more logical order!)
However I would also travel beyond the surface of each country and uncover the more unheard of places, interacting with the local people to a much greater extent, trying to pick up as much of the language as I could. Having seen Mount Kilimanjaro each morning whilst in Kenya, I would definitely make a good attempt to climb it, this may take me more hours than anyone ever before, but I would succeed! lol
It is without hesitation that making my way to Antarctica and viewing this ‘white desert’ would be included. With Asia being a continent I have yet to travel, my passport would be together with flights for India, allowing me to be involved in the ‘festival of colours’ and perhaps get a minuscule part in a Bollywood film! lol Thailand where I would fully embrace the incredible islands, ancient temples and appreciate the time to switch off and just relax.
The chance to juxtapose this would be taken by experiencing the excitement of the vibrant city of Hong Kong where I would try some snake soup?!! Taking on the sand dunes of Namibia, as well as working with lions in Zimbabwe, be part of a carnival in Brazil and ride across the Mongolian Steppes would have a firm place within the route. Throughout, I would contribute fully to each country and assist to the best of my ability. Authentic transport would also be taken and local cuisine eaten as I moved from place to place.
Being somewhere that I am unfamiliar with and the unpredictability that comes with this is when ironically, I feel most comfortable. The ability to look back favourably at these events, which contained an element of danger, yet was diminished and replacement with excitement is something that goes hand in hand with travel........In my case being faced head on with a rather large hyena whilst being knee deep in mud, feeling the effects of Kenyan alcohol with only an extremely intoxicated friend wielding a machete there to help us! lol (we escaped unharmed!)
With an ambition to eventually acquire a job under the title of ‘travel journalist’ combining this with a willingness to learn, a passion for wildlife, people and a keen sense of adventure, I would ensure, if given the opportunity to depart on a month long ultimate adventure, it would certainly not be wasted!!
Ending it there is hard, yet I feel it is the most sensible option as I could easily ramble on adding yet more and more places to my list. Who knows I might just add a trip to space on the end of this one!! Anyone care to join me?!!!
